Dita Von Teese talks ex-boyfriends and body odor at her £20 perfume launch (which isn’t called DVT)May 5th, 2012 | News | No Comments »
Dita Von Teese is in London to launch her debut perfume at Liberty and looks suitably sexy for the “sensual scent”.
The Burlesque dancer is wore a plunging pine green gown, her signature pillarbox red Dior lipstick and, um, a damp patch along the hem.
She also helped Christian Louboutin launch his 20th anniversary exhibition yesterday, because she’s just so chic. See: Sound the shoe horn: Christian Louboutin and Dita Von Teese have launched these ‘ooh-shoes’
But why launch a scent now? And what’s B.O and smoke got to do (got to do) with it?
“My ex once told me I wore the same perfume as his mother…I wanted to create my own scent” admits Dita.
DVT [who is yet to abbreviate either the Eau De Parfum or her name, thankfully] took time out from her busy schedule to talk perfect scents and whole the B.O thing, below:
“The bottle of ‘Dita Von Teese’ is something you find in a black satin handbag of sophisticated women but the tassel and the small emblem, which is refined with a martini glass, feathers and a corset, speak in a subtle way to my Burlesque side.”
“The neck of every bottle is adorned with a silk cord with a blood red pearl, which flows into a long black silk tassel.”
“I had these visuals in my mind of glamorous women in a Parisian nightclub. I just love the idea of this beautiful heady night time when it mingles with our body odeur and smoke and nightlife.”
“Perfume is a tool for a woman to become every woman she ever wanted to be. I wore the same perfume for about 20 years, when I actually had an interesting experience.
“I was walking down the street in Paris with my boyfriend, who I’d been dating for two weeks… [ Hang on, is this a story? We’ll get a cup of tea …]
…“When he asked me what perfume I wear. When I told him the name of the fragrance he kind of hesitated and revealed that this was also his mother’s perfume.
“This really got me, because I really didn’t want him to associate my smell with his mother, but on the other hand this perfume was perfect and iconic for me, it fit me perfectly and it was mysterious and unknown to everyone I met until that day.”
“I started hunting for other fragrances that could replace it and there were some which I really liked, but none of them felt like the real me and fit me. So, I decided to create my own scent and this was a dream come true.”
